Welcome to 2022 and all the craziness it may bring. While I am a hopeful person, I may have to abandon hope if I am hoping 2022 will be like 2019. Remember 2019. Ya, no virus, no jabs, a nice Christmas, and inflation almost under control. Oh ya and no lockdowns, stupid face coverings, and small business doing just fine. And of course not a bunch of Democrats and President Biden trying to destroy our economy and us as well. No bare shelves of food and needed parts. Plenty of cheap used cars and no supply chain problems and no Russia threatening to start WW3 if NATO does not back off. Ya, 2019 looks pretty good using perfect hindsight!
So I am going to learn from that hindsight and look to this year and the LIST.
THE LIST OF THE
Best Prepper Gear for 2022
This is just a start, but I have easily 100 more items I will be looking at in 2022. I just didn't want to overwhelm our readers with that long of a list so this one has only 10. Some of the things I have and some I will be purchasing to put on the next few blogs.
Number 1 - An Axe. Everyone needs an Axe, especially a prepper. These things come in handy for cutting and shaving firewood and of course for self-defence. A good axe does not have to be all that expensive but should be kept dry and sharp. I remember the first incident we had as a family. I was cutting down a small tree in the backyard. My middle son wanted to try, Warning him about it being sharp, he took one swing and we were on the way to the emergency room at the local hospital. Ya, they can cut you! Axes come in all sizes. I like the smaller hand ones. Here is one from AMAZON. WilFiks Chopping Axe, 15” Camping Outdoor Hatchet for Wood Splitting and Kindling, Forged Carbon Steel Heat Treated Hand Maul Tool, Fiberglass Shock Reduction Handle with Anti-Slip Grip
Number 2 - A good hammer. I have probably lost 5 hammers in the last 20 years. It got so bad here at the farm that my wife started painting them with pink paint. Like an axe, a hammer should be kept dry and the handle should be checked for tightness. Again like axes, hammers come in all types, forms, and sizes. Like the axe, I prefer the handheld one (a carpenters hammer) you can pull nails. At the AMAZON store, they sell a CRAFTSMAN Hammer, Fiberglass, 16 oz. (CMHT51398)
Number 3 - A small hand shovel. I have always wanted one, and that ended last spring when I used it to fill grow bags in my greenhouse. This is not what I purchased but is similar. CO-Z Mini Folding Shovel High Carbon Steel, Portable Lightweight Outdoor Tactical Survival Foldable Mini Shovel, Entrenching Tool, Camping, Hiking, Digging, Backpacking, Car Emergency. Here at AMAZON, A nice thing about this shovel is that it will fold up and is easy to transport.
Number 4 -A Berkey Water Filter. I have not purchased one of these but do know friends that have them. They are very satisfied with them. I do filter the water from my refrigerator. I have also purchased one of those kits that you add filters to 5-gallon buckets. That worked really well for me, but my wife refused to have 5-gallon buckets in the kitchen. So guess what the next purchase will be? Royal Berkey Gravity-Fed Water Filter with 2 Black Berkey Purification Elements View it HERE. This is a MUST if you lose access to clean healthy drinking and cooking water. Preppers must-have.
Number 5 - A potty lid for a 5-gallon bucket. This is a really useful item and every prepper should have one or two. Premium Camp Toilet, Portable Toilet for Camping, Bucket Toilet Seat with Lid fit 5 Gallon Bucket, Luggable Loo Black (No Bucket Included) View it HERE. Don't leave home when the SHTF without it. Pun intended.
Number 6 - Garden Seeds. Not growing your own food? Well then as a prepper you are still a food slave. Even if you are not growing now, you should have some stored away in your freezer which will keep them long term. Note: Sites that sell survival seeds sealed up in a can will not last. Actually removing all oxygen and moisture can damage some seeds. Long-term seeds are frozen seeds. Just make your seeds are dry before freezing. Below are two places I absolutely trust when purchasing seeds and have for years. These are:
Number 7 - Canned foods and others. Yes, canned food is a good idea now as most canned food will last a good 5 to 6 years. Be careful with canned fruit. Here is a short list: Rice - Pasta -Canned Soup - Canned Vegetables - Canned Fruit - Canned Chicken - Jars Of Peanut Butter - Salt - Sugar - Powdered Milk - Bags Of Flour - Yeast - Coffee. And then there is SPAM!
Note: I am not an expert on all stored foods. Canned fruit may be OK a couple of years past best by date. Peanut butter may become rancid after being stored for a few years. For more on storing grocery store items look for a future blog on that.
Number 8 - Emergency Medical Kit. You can make up a kit by purchasing separate things, or you can purchase an already made-up kit. it's your choice. Below are three kits. No.1 is a simple one and No.2 is a more advanced trauma kit, while Kit No.3 is the standard home kit. I would suggest you purchase two paperback books as well. "When there is no Doctor" and "When there is no Dentist". Here is Kit No.1 Here is Kit No.2. and Kit No.3. Also, take a first aid course. Practice some of the first aid skills you have learned. Make sure there is more than one person that has first aid skills. I am lucky as I have two nurses in my family. One is an LVN and the other is an RN. Lucky me!
Number 9 - Have some cash on hand. I would give you a URL for free cash, but I really don't have one. If you do please Email me quickly as I could always use some. Why Cash on hand? The main reason would be that if your credit or debit card quit working for a number of reasons (none of them good) then cash would be king for a little bit. The other day I walked into a store and their credit card system was down. Cash only was the paper put on the front door. If our banking and the financial system went away forever, then cash would be useful for a short period. I use cash for birthday and Christmas gifts (very popular). If you can, put a bit of it away just in case.
Number 10 - Long Term Food. I have been using and eating long-term food for years. As a Scoutmaster our troop used this type of food for long hiking trips (Appalachian Trail) It's lightweight and you only need a fire and some water. That was a few years back where I experienced my 2nd. childhood as a Scoutmaster! That brings us up to 2022, and the following is a company I use and trust for its quality products. That company is My Patriot Supply. If you are prepping for long-term storage this is a good place to start. You will find them HERE at this URL.
That ends this blog. 2022 is looking a bit unstable, so get your preps finished and up-to-date. If you have not started - Well then I suggest you get started and start REALLY REALLY FAST.
A note of honesty about this particular blog and most of the things on this Blog site I get a small commission if you purchase anything I suggest. The bit of money I get goes into support of this site and a good cup of coffee at my local coffee shop.
